Let it Shine! with our Solar Appeal
About 80% of homes in South Africa now have access to electricity, but power cuts are still common – especially in rural areas.
Up to 40% of South Africans still use kerosene regularly for heating, lighting and cooking – which is a highly-flammable and toxic fuel. While some rely on torches with expensive batteries for emergency lighting.
Now a new generation of cheap, high-performing solar lights can provide clean, safe lighting and phone charging. These lights cost relatively little, last over five years and require no specialist installation or maintenance.
Thuso is launching a new appeal to provide lamps to the children and families we support at Thuto Lesedi and Lobethal schools – because children without light can’t study! We also hope to explore the possibility of a revolving fund to get lights to more people.
Help us bring solar lamps to South Africa!

Books go to South African Schools
With the help of all our supporters Thuso recently sent 1,213 children’s books to South Africa. Seventeen boxes made their way to Thuto Lesedi Secondary School and five boxes went to Lobethal Primary School.
