Lobethal Primary school is a rural school in Limpopo Province, north of Gauteng. Many of the children come from poor families and some walk over three miles to get to the school. Among them there are those who cross a river far from the nearest bridge, so they cannot go to school when the river is full.
For more than a decade, we have been sending books to the school so that they can start their own library. We also send clothes, toys and toiletries.
Power cuts are common in South Africa, especially in rural areas, so we also fundraise for solar lights, which mean that children can study at home and families can light their homes safely without using dangerous kerosene lamps.
