Thuto Lesedi Secondary School is situated in Vosloorus in the province of Gauteng near Johannesburg. The School has a total of nearly 1900 students. The State Allocation does not meet the needs of this number of students. The level of grant is based on the location of the school, which is in a middle-class area in a historically black township. The allocation system does not recognise the fact that most of the pupils travel from poor, informal settlements outside Vosloorus into the town centre to a desirable school. The result is that 75% of the pupils are exempt from paying school fees. A fall in the level of school fees collected has a serious impact on service delivery. Our charity supports children who live in child-headed households, or with parents who are not currently working, by providing food packs for the school holidays.
